DREAMS OF ALTERNATE REALITIES #2
WHAT IF I WAS A CHARACTER IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE?
Name: Roulade.
Hometown: Dampier, Western Australia.
Weapon: Holy Sword of Newest Balance.
Aesthetic: Salt n Pepa meets Purple Rain via a black / really real blue / prussian blue colourway.
Powers: Mind travel, good at sword(s).
Weaknesses: Fatal wounds, event scheduling.
Allies: Tiga, the Ghost of Fred Perry.
Enemies: Chris Brown?
Indifferent to: the barista at Coffee, Tea or Me?(.)
The upside down sword says that I’m pretty casual about things but the presence of a sword says that I know how to use it. The apparent aggression of the clenched fist is balanced out by the roguish nonchalance of the scarf & t-shirt combination (not to be confused with “Fan of The Arcade Fire”) and the semi-shevelled hair.
re-tracklisted version of the white album
It took John, Paul and George Martin 24 consecutive hours (or something massive like that) in the studio to sort out the tracklist for “The White Album“. In about an hour I’ve done heaps better and come up with this more concise tracklist without losing any of the album’s depth or magic. The length is roughly in between each “half” of the original(/actual) version, I kept “Wild Honey Pie” and I didn’t respectively make “Back in the USSR” or “Goodnight” the opening or closing tracks.
I can see some new ground over there, there’s something wrong with it though OH WAIT, IT’S BROKEN
partyday
i chopped this together in cool edit earlier this evening. intended to be music to drink coffee to, it’s an edit that you don’t need a beard to enjoy.

the decade 2003-2013: in summary

maybe i’ve done it and maybe i haven’t but it’s entirely possible that i have managed to distill the essence of the years 2003-2012 (inclusive) into a single picture taken on a nokia 6300.
in years to come, i think the image of a hipster taking photos of people with an expensive camera with masking tape over the flash at a houseparty will be an enduring one (by enduring i mean “difficult to shake” rather than “sticking to the psyche via charm and merit”).
but yeah this is it. a tall skinny guy dressed head to toe in black, with a digital slr, at a houseparty in a house that’s white from floor to ceiling, taking a photo of a french dj who is smoking indoors and dj’ing (the track was “warp” by new musik, hot jam) to an empty dancefloor.
admittedly:
-he should be in vans, not nike am90s
-there should be a USE LESS tote bag in shot
-uncharacteristically there are no girls in american apparel leggings on the dancefloor
-those guys at the front door don’t appear to be talking about the monster children gallery
…but rarely can you have it all.

hear a vox amp die
the amp at the feet of riton is a vox VBM1 “brian may special”. it’s designed to mimic a little battery powered amp that john deacon designed for brian may, which he used to get that signature tone (prior to running it through a wall of AC30s). it seems like a cheesy/gimmicky product but this little 10watt amp sounds fantasic, i am a previous owner.
i am not a massive Queen fan but i got some pretty incredible t-rexy glam tones out of this, equal parts shimmer and grit. also, it looks great: white with gold trim and red & green diamond pattern on the mesh.
sadly though, the amp died on me. before i left perth i was in a band with some friends (jimmy swift/donalde dijon from electric limosine, daniel burt and matt funnell) called Decades although i wanted to call it Futuristic. jimmy played drums, i played synth (strings on the right hand, droning bass on the left hand), matt played guitar and burty played bass. there is only one recording of anything we did and it’s the mp3 i’ve included here. it was recorded on a knock-off dictaphone (so you can’t really hear the synth bass at all) in the corner of the room under a pillow. around the minute mark you can hear the guitar cut out. somehow, we pushed it too far and something got burnt on the solid state circuitboard bit. it was a real downer. whilst listening to the mp3 you will also note that i am the last one to notice that something has gone wrong.

fruity
i bought this miniature moleskine (as part of a two pack) on the weekend. i’ve had these fruit and diamond stickers (from the 2005 autumn/winter bape catalogue hahaha) since my trip to tokyo about four years ago and have been waiting to put them on something but never quite found the right thing. this little notebook seemed like the right candidate. in celebration of this, here are some equally fruity gems:
The Nick Straker Band “Beat Inside”
Ago “Stop Your Life”
Risque “Burn It Up, Mr DJ” (Club Mix)
Claudio Simonetti “I Love the Piano“
dolph lundgren matrix raiden jesus

new balance x alife rivington club 1300
dear new balance (and alife), congratulations, you have nailed it.

tapeheads screenshots

i had never heard of Tapeheads until last weekend when i saw it on the shelf with “JOHN CUSACK / TIM ROBBINS” and the title of the movie bursting off the dvd case’s spine in a pretty alarming typeface. i’m so glad i rented it, it was really something else. i can’t believe that after years of getting stuck in horrible conversations with film students namedropping “cult classics” and “powerful pieces of cinema” at parties that i’ve never heard any mention of this movie.
it’s the story of two friends who get fired from their job as security guards and then start their own music video production company - Video Aces. cameos include but are not limited to: doug e fresh, sam moore, ted nugent, jello biafra, courtney love, junior walker, stiv bators, weird al yankovic and zed from the police academy movies.

if you haven’t seen it, you should check it out. heaps of screenshots after the jump
