the insde and outside wheel each have a series of colours and lines on them and move at different speeds in opposite directions, so as time goes by you get ever-changing factory-esque/peter saville-ish colour/line combinations.

tears for fears samples & forced emotion

808s & Heartbreak - i have some complaints

1. we’ll never know how good the album could have been because kanye is so drippingly drenched in auto-tune - a dead horse that has been so severely flogged already.

2. stop comparing your “reinvention” to michael jackson and madonna. if you have to tell people you’re a pop icon, you’re maybe not quite a pop icon yet.

3. using reverb on keys does not immediately equate to “icy synth stabs”.

4. the tactic of leaking the majority of the album to the internet, observing the feedback and then going back to the studio to implement the changes outlined by the peanut gallery / focus group is pretty weak. especially for someone who talks so much and so loudly about being an innovator and a visionary. he should have just done all the tracks according to his innovative vision and then put the album out without fan pre-approval

5. horrible album name, made even worse by the following quote which i got from here: “West insisted that each track had to feature TR-808-generated drumming… West felt that the 808 is an important instrument that can be used to evoke emotion… It was revealed that the occasional exaggerated effects produced by Auto-Tune are meant to represent the effect of being heartbroken”

am i a hater? no. i would like this album to be great, i just don’t think it will be. i’m not sure if kanye’s trying too hard or not enough. i’m leaning towards too hard though.

appreciating:

  • the bright future of jo-wilfried tsonga: his youth, tenacity and notable agility (/overall prowess) position him well amongst the aging smugness of federer and the brute force of nadal.
  • fruit tingles: despite the wonka buyout (from allen’s), they’ve maintained the same delicious flavour and texture that keep be coming back - reliably exciting.
  • peaberry espresso on riley st: i have a lot of love for the peaberry. slamming coffee, delicious (and affordable) sandwiches, glammed out open grills and the staff rule.
  • infinity sourdough on victoria st: convenient opening hours, excellent coffee, great bread, delicious treats and no queues.
  • goodgod: i have been having only great times there.
  • audio-technica ath-f55 headphones: clear and punchy sound with a comfortable fit that actually keeps them on my head.
